Contract clauses and review

Find clauses, edit their text, assign reviewers, record decisions, and discuss changes.

Open the contract from the Projects Hub. Reading requires project access and active Platform and Autopilot Contracts licenses. Changes require Contributor access or higher in the workspace and project. Approved and Archived contracts are read-only; an active Autopilot lock can also prevent changes. See contract settings to resume editing when appropriate.

Find a clause

The Sections outline lists top-level clauses, using the document's clause numbers where available. Select a clause to read it. The outline does not expand into a nested subsection tree.

Use Search sections to narrow the list. Choose Risks to show clauses with active risks, or All to remove that filter. Clear the search as well to return to the full outline. An empty filtered list does not mean the contract has no clauses.

On compact screens, open the Sections disclosure to reach the same outline, search, and filters. Selecting a clause returns you to the reader. Choose Overview to return to the contract context, key terms, and parties.

Build sections

  1. Choose Add section in the outline.
  2. Enter a title and choose Parent: Top level for a main section, or an existing section for a subsection. Add the optional clause category, obligation owner, and summary. The obligation owner identifies which side is responsible for the clause's obligations.
  3. Choose Create section.
  4. Select an available clause in the outline, choose Add clause text for an empty body or Edit beside existing text, write or paste the clause text, and choose Save section body.
Edit section body dialog for a limitation-of-liability clause, with contract text and the Save section body button.
Edit the selected clause text, then choose Save section body. Example contract text.

The title, parent, category, owner, and summary fields belong to section creation. The clause-body editor changes the text. Use Move up or Move down in the available section actions to change ordering.

Delete section removes the selected section. Its confirmation warns that child content, comments, reviewers, and risks may also be removed. Check the entire branch before confirming; export a copy first if you need to retain the text.

Clause workflow

Use the clause's inline Status control to record its workflow stage: Draft, In review, Approved, Changes requested, or Archived. The outline also provides workflow and approval controls for a clause when editing is allowed. Choose the intended value, wait for the update, and check the displayed result. A control can be read-only because of access, contract status, or an Autopilot lock.

Clause workflow describes progress on that clause. The whole-contract status in the header describes the agreement's lifecycle. Updating one does not substitute for reviewing the other.

Approval and reviewers

Use the reviewer control to assign project members. Assignments identify who should review; they are separate from the clause's approval record.

Use Approve or Reject below the clause when your access permits it. The outline's approval control also updates the clause's approval, with Not started, Pending, Approved, Changes requested, and Rejected choices. Read the current decision and discussion before changing it, then check the saved result. An AI risk review does not approve the clause for you.

Approval choices record the clause decision separately from workflow status. Example data; no approval changed.

Discussion

Write a message in Discussion and choose Comment. Comments are visible to anyone with access to the project, so include only information suitable for that audience.

You can edit your own comment with its edit action, then save the revision or cancel it. To remove your own comment, choose its delete action and read the Delete comment confirmation before confirming or cancelling. Check the discussion after a change. If an action fails, the error message does not prove the comment was saved; inspect the thread before retrying.

Review clauses and risks

The Contract risks summary shows counts for the whole contract. Selecting a section shows Section risks instead. Choose Review contract risks or Review section risks to open the risk register with that scope selected. Read findings and evidence and use risk actions there before returning to revise the draft.
